Yahoo has recently announced that users from the US and Israel who had an email account with the company between January 1, 2012 and December 21, 2016 can now take part in a class action and file for part of the $117,500,000 settlement fund as a result of a data hack. A qualifying Yahoo account include ones with Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Fantasy Sports, Flickr and Tumblr.
In 2013, hackers were able to access three billion Yahoo accounts and stole personal and billing information, including names, telephone numbers, passwords, birth dates and answers to security questions.
The settlement provides a range of benefits to compensate those whose data was compromised in the hack. Affected Yahoo users can submit claims for credit monitoring services provided by AllClearID or request for a cash payment that could range from $100 to a maximum of $358.80, depending on the funds available after other benefit payouts.
The settlement is pending final court approval set for April 2, 2020.
